Although I grew up 40 miles north of Canonsburg, Pa. (Home of Don Yenko
Chevrolet), the local community was still influenced by Molar iron. The
majority of my friends and relatives owned mopars, everything from
family cars to clean Road Runners. At age 16, I learned to drive in my
father's 1969 Dodge Dart GT 273 V-8, which was plenty of car for my age.
My first car in high school was a 1974 Dodge Charger 400 2 BBL. The car
was pretty, good for dating, but low on performance. I moved to the DFW
area right after college. A few years later I decided I needed Mopar
muscle back in my life. I lucked out and found a 1971 440-6 CUDA
4-speed and Super Track Pak in Shreveport, La. What a car! Two years
later, I bought a B-5 blue, white interior, 1969 HEMI Charger, 4-speed
car in need of restoration. In 1989, I found my Lemon Twist 27,000 mile
70 HEMICUDA. I felt like I had struck gold!
My wife wanted a stable full of children instead of cars and
motorcycles, so the rest of the iron had to go except one Harley and the
HEMICUDA. Though the car was raced its first six years, it was well
taken car of. About 1980, the car was given a fresh coat of paint, the
exhaust was replaced, and some small items repaired or replaced. The
vinyl top and interior are original and the clock and 8-track still
work fine! I am just about finished collecting every conceivable part
needed for a concourse restoration - which I'll do with my 2 boys
hopefully! They're the future of carrying on The Mopar tradition!
Options include: AM 8-TRACK, elastomeric front bumper, rallye instrument
cluster, lemon twist, 426 2-4bbl, super performance axle 4:10, rear
window defog, tinted glass, gran coupe interior, 6-way adjustable seats,
collapsible spare, and more. Hope you enjoy this months' feature - I
sure DO!
