Here is Tommy’s story about how he came to own this treasure.
About six years ago one of my ex-students came to me and said that he knew where there was a ‘68 Hemi Charger that could be bought. I made a deal with the widow that owned the car and her 19 year old son. When I picked the car up, it was in pieces and scattered all over a two car garage, but the body was in excellent condition. It was all there except for the motor and transmission. I purchased a ‘66 block and parts from Jim Hale in Arkansas and Les Adams built an excellent engine for me as well as rebuilt a transmission that I already owned.
Morris Counts and some of my students helped me put the car together. I decided to paint the car the original color but added the HEMI graphics on the side. The car is one of 475 1968 Hemi Chargers that were built and one of 264 automatics of which there are only 49 known to survive.
Tommy, thanks for telling us your story and CONGRATULATIONS on winning Best of Show at our Cowtown Mopar Roundup.
