Bob & Julie Carroll's 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner

1970 Plymouth Road Runner

It was a summer day in 1971 when during a family reunion I heard a distinctive rumble coming from down our street. I grew up in a car loving family so sounds such as this was not an uncommon occurrence. The rumble got closer and closer and then it happened, my uncle pulled into the driveway in his newly purchased 1970 Road Runner Convertible. It had an air grabber, black hood treatment, pistol grip shifter, and it was painted bright red. There is such a thing as love at first sight I thought, forget girls I love this car. My uncle knew I was dying to have a ride so off we went. I was smitten with the red bird and when the air grabber opened and my uncle punched the throttle, it was all over for me. My life's course was set and nothing would hinder my future dream of having my own Road Runner.

Fast forward 31 years to August 2002, I was checking the Ebay Motors ads and there she was, not a convertible but equipped with everything else I desired. I had said many times, "only an idiot would buy a car off of Ebay", yet here I was about to join the club. I bid off and on for 3 days, I would set a limit and very shortly after raise it. I broke all the rules I had set for myself, it was then that I realized I was only fooling myself and the only true limit was the amount necessary to secure this car. Well as they say, the rest is history, and I no longer consider folks who buy cars on Ebay idiots.

My Road Runner is equipped with 383, air grabber, black hood treatment, buckets, console, pistol grip, 8 ¾ rear w/3:55 gears, power steering, and manual drum brakes. The exterior paint is F8 Ivy Green and the interior is Black ands Silver. I joined the club very soon after my purchase and my only regret is that I did not join sooner. Everyone I have met is very friendly and helpful; it makes me feel great and proud to be a member of Cowtown Mopars.
