In 1991 I asked a friend if he knew where I might be able to find a Cuda or Challenger and he told me where a Challenger was. I went over and talked with the owner and he said that he wanted to sell it. I asked the price and he said $500. Then I learned that he already had put a 383 in it, I nearly broke my neck getting the money to him before he changed his mind. I started trying to find different optional parts for it and I wanted to make a good street machine out of it. It was originally dark green metallic. I changed the color to the sub-lime color that it is now. In September of 1993 we were getting it ready to load on the trailer to go racing the next day when there was back fire and the carb. caught on fire. The next thing I knew the fire department was there putting out the fire that destroyed everything under the hood as well as my R/T hood. I can tell you the blue doesn't go to well with green especially when it a blue blaze coming out of the scoops.
It took me three years to rebuild her, but I did and it paid off. With my cousin Wayne Miller driving we went to the semi-finals in September of 1996 at Texas Raceway and two weeks later on Sept. 21, she won the money. In 1997 we were the second car in No-Electronics to win the once a month purse of $500. By the way we were the second of three Mopars to do that three months in a row. That year we finished fifth in the class and tenth over all. In 1998 we finished forth in our class and eight over all. Not bad for a car that was almost lost in a fire. My brother Freddie and I now partner the car and we try to race as much as we can. I would like to say thank you to a life time friend and club brother, Don Boulware and to David Brodnex for all of their help when we needed it. I guess this ain't a bad job by two brothers who are blind.
