The car was originally a ‘69 Road Runner with a 383, Auto on the column,
power steering, manual drum brakes, 323 open 8 3/4 rearend, and air
conditioning. The air conditioning being one of the more unusual options
for a ‘69 Road Runner. The original color was an ugly olive green with
two-tone green interior.
I have owned the car for eight years. It was pretty rough when I bought
it: with some minor rust, and the interior was worn. I drove and raced
the car as-was for a year.
About six years ago I decided to do something with it: I replaced the
engine with a 440 nos block, 906 mildly ported heads, six pack rods,
stock pistons, 280/290 Alliance cam, performer intake and a 750 Holley.
The transmission is now a stock 727 with a B.M. shift kit and an 1800
RPM stall converter. The chassis was treated to a front end rebuild,
added a 3.23 sure grip, & drag radials. The rust was removed from the
body, dents repaired and painted a 69 1/2 bright green metallic. New
carpet, headliner, and door panels were installed, and a thumbwheel
am/fm radio was installed.
I did all the work except the actual painting, on a limited budget. The
parts were obtained from various swap meets and trades. Many of the
parts came from fellow club members. The car was built with fun And
reliability in mind.
I have attended many car shows and raced it (13.86 @ 99.8 mph). I have
driven the car to all functions that I have attended. I am pleased with
the car’s restified theme, mild motor, gauges, wheels, & tires. The car
is enjoyable and reliable. Future plans include reinstalling the factory
air conditioning and adding a 60’s era 8-track player under the dash for
comfort and nostalgia.
Thank you Rich for telling us your Road Runner.
